Geographically, the southern most part of Ontario
is the same latitude as Northern California.
As a result, Ontario is blessed with the most
temperate climate in Canada: warm summer days,
cool nights, and lots of snowmelt to fill our
rivers in the spring. Average summer temperatures
are in the mid-20 C (80 F) during the day,
with night time temperatures in the 15C (65F)
range.
While a few hearty paddlers begin running
the Southern Ontario rivers by April, most
canoe trips and kayak touring begins in May.
In the northern part of the province, lakes
are free of ice by mid May, with freeze up
happening again by the end of October.
