Package Description:
Courses take place at Gull River in Minden, Ontario. Level 1: Moving Water 1 provides an introduction to whitewater paddling for those with little or no experience in whitewater. Emphasis is on tandem and solo canoeing skills, understanding whitewater principles and safety. The course is an intensive 2-day class involving up to 8 hours a day on the water developing and practising moving water paddling skills such as: eddy outs, peels, "S", turns, ferrying, front surfing and lining. Level 1 manoeuvres are on class 1 & 2 rapids. Some classroom instruction takes place to cover theory. Other objectives include an in-depth look at: canoeing hazards and obstacles, understanding water dynamics and canoe rescue.
Level 2: Moving Water 2 represents the highest canoeing skill with the Moving Water discipline and provides the candidate with the opportunity to improve his/her whitewater skills under more challenging class 2 & 3 water. Canoeists taking this course should have considerable paddling experience beyond the Moving Water level 1 course.
PaddleFoot provides all the necessary equipment for instruction, such as paddles, PFD's, all safety equipment, and of course, canoes. Participants are encouraged to bring their own paddles and PFD's, and any other river equipment they may wish. Participants should also bring extra warm and dry clothes, and quick drying gear for the times we are on the water. Though the course takes place in the summer, there is a possibility that the air or water temperature will be cold, so you should be prepared in case of cool weather.
Courses are offered on weekends. Custom non-certification moving water courses can also be booked for groups of 4 or more. Price is $250 per person.
