Package Description:
Our Rideau Canal kayak tour concentrates on a beautiful 10-km stretch of the Rideau Canal, celebrating its 175th birthday in 2007. This trip commences at historic Jones Falls and ends at beautiful Chaffey's Locks, just south of Newboro, "The Great Divide". It is here where the waters begin to flow north to Ottawa. Our adventure begins at the historic 60' high dam at Jones Falls, but not before first exploring this beautiful location, steeped in history. We will learn of the difficulties engineers experienced while building the waterway as we pass through several small lakes on our paddle toward Chaffey's Locks. We will have a chance to sample some of the excitement as pleasure boaters and kayakers alike pass through the old historic locks as well as the modern hydraulic system. Our leisurely paddle generally keeps us far away from the mainstream boat traffic as we're in protected waters. Along the way we will portage over the scenic Davis Lock, where we will have lunch.
We'll shortly arrive at Chaffey's Locks, to end our paddling day.
Before returning home, Paddlers can drive up to Newboro and have a chance to tour some of the interesting shops and the famous Kilborn's store.
Notes: Interest in our Rideau Canal Tour has been overwhelming so space is already limited... we recommend booking early. New Sea Kayaks & 'ALL' Kayak Gear is provided. Minimum 6 people required. Custom Tours and Team Building Groups are welcome.
