Description:
This Southern Ontario whitewater kayak course for beginners takes place on the Nith River, near Brantford/Paris. It is the perfect place to gain experience in whitewater without having to travel too far. Come and kayak the 3km whitewater flume-ride of splash, just 1 hour west of Toronto. This is a 4-5 hour kayak experience, depending on flow volumes. Stay a night at a local B&B (extra) and make it a weekend getaway!
This paddle is on one of the most unique rivers in the Grand Watershed, the Nith River. In the spring, it is a fury of whitewater and close shorelines, right in the heartland of Ontario. It is a river of pools and tumbling currents and is a challenge to read and navigate. This is an excellent river on which to kayak. It's not deep, but it moves!
From April-May, this placid river of summer becomes a kayaking delight. The spring run-off makes you feel like you're riding on the back of a dragon - a flume ride that races towards the Grand. It rushes past forested clay bluffs, under towering cliffs of gravel. It swirls around limestone rockeries at Devil's Cave, then pours over mini-sets of rapids to the Great Divide. Here the river splits and the fun begins. On the right is a boulder-rushing section where kayaks can test their speed and when you think it is all over, there's more to come. Water-slides, standing waves and pools, all condensed into a 1-kilometre section. A perfect kayak playground to practice what you have learned. And it does not end there - as you enter the Mighty Grand River with awe, the Nith becomes smaller. Your final descent is the 100-meter dash through the High Level Rapids. As the Grand slows down, so do you and it's time to get out.
Available end of March, April & May. Package includes instructor/guide, helmet, wetsuit, kayak & equipment, shuttle ride and our Tripper Lunch.
If wishing to extend your day, we have three B&B's to choose from. Stay another day and enjoy the beauty of the Oneida Run on the upper Grand River; it has about a kilometre of swifts.
B&B with 1 day whitewater paddling - $149/person, plus tax (based on double occupancy)
B&B with 2 days of paddling - $249/person plus tax (based on double occupancy)
