Package
Description:
This is a 5-day, 4-night base camp astronomy sea kayak adventure tour, offered only once during the summer! We paddle to camp on the first day. The following 3 days will be spent exploring by kayak the surrounding islands to the west of Parry Sound amongst some of the best of Georgian Bay's 30,000 islands. There will be plenty of time for relaxing, reading, contemplating the galaxy and quizzing Doug Cunningham with questions in between.
Doug Cunningham is a retired Science and Outdoor Education teacher. Doug has been an avid astronomer for over 35 years and greatly enjoys observing the dark night skies from Quetican, his backyard observatory, near Lions Head, Ontario.
What will it be like?
- after dinner each evening, Doug will lead a discussion on astronomy choosing different topics each night
- we tend to stay up late each night (but folks can turn in whenever they desire) and then have more leisurely mornings and breakfasts
- Doug Cunningham becomes a kid again and hopes you will share his enthusiasm in gazing at the wonders of the nights sky
Staffing
The trip staff consists of a lead guide and an assistant guide, with an apprentice leader often coming along for training. The lead guide is trained in Advanced Wilderness First Aid and has advanced kayak and rescue skills along with formal White Squall guide training.
