Description:
From Pancake Bay Provincial Park, Lake Superior, Ontario, we paddle at a relaxing pace, north along the open coast of Lake Superior. We end our sea kayaking trip near the rugged lava flows of Mamainse, for return transportation to the park.
This guided tour begins with sea kayak instruction and offers a good introduction to it.
Deduct $20 CDN/day for those who supply their own fully equipped kayak; group discounts (> 5 persons) are %15.
Return transportation from Sault Ste. Marie, depending on availability of our van, is $150/group/van (six or less/van). Call ahead to confirm!
Trip Itinerary (1 day, 16 km (10 miles)
This guided day-trip begins at the Voyageur Lodge on Lake Superior, approximately 60 km. (36 miles) north of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario (call 705-882-2504 for accommodations). Campsites are available at Pancake Bay Provincial Park (705-882-2209).
9:00 a.m. Meet at Voyageur Lodge and drive to Pancake Bay Provincial Park, bordering Lake Superior (10-minute drive), to begin a one-hour course of sea kayaking instruction (paddle strokes, turning and safety procedures).
- 9:00 a.m. Meet at Voyageurs' Lodge and drive to Pancake Bay Provincial Park bordering Lake Superior (10 minute drive) to begin one hour of basic training (paddle strokes, turning, and safety procedure).
- 10:00 a.m.-12:00 Paddle north on Lake Superior to the beautiful sand beach at Sawpit Bay.
- 12:00 -1:00 p.m. Lunch at Sawpit Bay.
- 1:00 -2:30 p.m. As we kayak along the coast, you will observe beautiful conglomerate outcroppings among the black lava flows.
- 3:00 p.m. Rest break
- 3:30-5:00 p.m. Take out at the sheltered beach near Mamainse for return transportation by van to Pancake Bay Provincial Park.
