Description:
Be one of the first canoes down the scenic and majestic Nippissing River this spring. Early May is one of the most beautiful times to paddle this river and explore Algonquin Park. The leaves have not yet unfolded to catch the sun, affording great chances of viewing wildlife such as Moose, Marten, Deer, Wolf and many other forest dwelling animals. Not to mention the abundant aquatic wildlife that lives throughout this river corridor including Otter, Beaver, Muskrat and Great Blue Herons. This is also one of the best times of year to catch Algonquin’s famed brook trout that are quite hungry after a winter spent under the ice. Imagine a ‘bug-less’ evening around the crackle of a fire, under a star-filled night next to a cascading waterfall. The upper stretches of the Nippissing river meanders slowly as it rises from its headwaters and reveals new discoveries and wildlife around each corner. As it moves across the park from west to east its current increases as many smaller creeks empty into the river. There are stretches of moving water and stunning scenery including High Falls, Allen Rapids and the historic High View Ranger Cabin among many more before the river empties into Cedar Lake in the north central portion of Algonquin Park. Come paddle with us and unravel some of the many mysteries of the parks forests and wildlife.
