Package Description:
Paddle to a 17th Century Iroquois village in a 24-foot fur trader canoe. Have an Iroquoian speaker open the door to the ways of his people and camp overnight within the palisade surrounding the longhouse.

This is as close as it gets - step back in time and live among the fierce Mohawk Iroquois of North America. Canoe the "Highway of the Iroquois". Paddle through the land they inherited in forfeit of the mountains they lost in New York State because they fought for the British.

Learn the history of the valley as you paddle in 24-foot fur trader canoes. Wade the shallow waters where these canoes can barely pass, glide over rapids that cannot hold them back, see osprey and blue herons and wild hemp of the Carolinian Forest. This is the journey to Kanata, a 17th century Six Nations village.

At the destined landing, draw up your canoe and hike to the Kanata Village to learn the ways, the dance and the language of the Iroquois. Tour the hand-constructed palisade and authentic longhouse and hear and understand how this proud nation once lived.

Spend an evening in the longhouse with a native storyteller, then camp within the palisade. The next day, tour the Mohawk Chapel and Woodland Native Cultural Center.

Trips are offered every third Sat/Sun of the month (May-Oct).

Day Trips are also available at $55/person plus tax and includes Voyageur Canoes, shuttle ride, guides, shore lunch and entrance to the Kanata Village, Chapel and Cultural Center.

Overnight camping adventure includes evening storyteller, field games, evening barbeque, breakfast and lunch, tents & air mattress.
