Looking for an advanced level of sea kayak instruction on a remote, beautiful and potentially challenging body of water? The Canadian certification system sea kayak training is the best you will find on Ontario's Lake Superior. Our courses include:
Sea Kayak Basics: Available daily throughout the season. This sea kayak, non-certification, instruction course is designed to introduce the novice or inexperienced person to kayak paddling. It will give you confidence with the boat and a good foundation of safety and skills upon which to build. You will learn the basic theory and skills for kayaking in sheltered water in a non-wilderness context at our Lake Superior Paddling Centre.
Paddle Canada Sea Kayak Skills 1: June 14-16, 2013 | Aug 16-18 2013.
This sea kayak instruction course provides a comprehensive 2.5-day introduction to the skills and theory needed for paddling day trips in calm water. The course consists of a day of on-water kayaking skills and rescue training and a day trip departing our Lake Superior Paddling Centre, where we will discuss the basics of weather, navigation, judgment and planning.
Paddle Canada Sea Kayak Skills 2: June 12-16, 2013 | Aug 20-24, 2013.
Refine your paddling skills in more challenging conditions, learn to roll and prepare for and embark on an overnight wilderness trip in 4.5 days of sea kayak instruction. This paddling-and-rescue-skills intensive course will prepare you for paddling open water and provides an introduction to the theory and planning necessary for overnight sea kayak trips.
Paddle Canada Sea Kayak Skills 3: Aug 16-24, 2013.
This sea kayak instruction and leadership course focuses on the theoretical knowledge necessary for planning and paddling challenging multi-day routes along more exposed coastlines. Topics include more advanced navigation exercises, weather, tides and currents, and group management. Instructors will provide feedback on paddling skills and introduce advanced towing and launching and landing techniques in rough seas.
Paddle Canada Flatwater/Level I Instructor: June 21-24, 2013/June 21-25, 2013
This 2.5/4.5-day sea kayak instruction course provides participants with information, paddling skills and experience to organize and instruct Paddle Canada Flatwater or Level I programs and courses. Successful participants will demonstrate a thorough knowledge of teaching sea kayaking skills to beginner and/or novice paddlers and be able to effectively instruct new paddlers. It provides a starting point for those looking to progress as Paddling Canada sea kayak instructors.
Lake Superior Guide's Course: June 16-21, 2013
A sea kayak instruction and leadership certification course designed to provide paddlers and experienced wilderness campers with the skills necessary to guide commercial sea kayak tours on the Great Lakes. This course blends guiding skills with paddling and rescue techniques. Workshops and instructional seminars will be incorporated into a four-day wilderness sea kayak trip on Lake Superior.
Courses are taught by Paddle Canada (formerly CRCA), certified Instructors.
