Description:
The Kayak School program is a great introduction to the popular world of whitewater kayaking in a friendly and controlled environment (ages 14-17).
For the first 3 days, the students base-camp at a rapid on or near the Ottawa River where they learn how to kayak. The basics of whitewater kayaking are taught through a series of games and lessons aimed at making learning fun. The skills include: directional strokes, re-righting (Eskimo Roll), rescue, emergency procedures & boat safety.
After the group has completed their skills training, we head down river to take advantage of 4 days and 50 km of practice water. Most of the narrow, deep-channelled rapids of the river are runnable & those that aren't allow us to learn the fine art of portaging a kayak. The group is supported by a large whitewater raft that carries the gear and food as they make their way down the river. Activities to choose from include: whitewater games, wildlife viewing & hikes, natural crafts, surfing waves, rescue workshops, beachside sauna, and much more.
Shuttle services from Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal are included in all our youth programs.
Please call or email us today about our Kayak school and other Paddlefoot canoe and kayak whitewater adventures.
