Paddling Ontario Alliance Website is Gateway to Great Family Getaways

At the northwest boundary of Algonquin Park Voyageur Quest has two properties; an authentic Log Cabin, and the Cottage Outpost. Each accommodates up to 12 people and is available for family reunions, or for a package family getaway. The new Voyager Quest Eco Adventure is based at the Cottage Outpost. The $415 pp (based on four people) fee includes a two-bedroom, solar-powered cottage, some meals, and private guide for four days. The Algonquin Family Adventure offers a mix of two nights camping (with guides) and two nights at the rustic, intimate Log Cabin accommodation. Meals, park permits, accommodation (double occupancy), equipment and guiding $625 adults/$425 (under 13), June 27 - Sept. 2. Return transportation from Toronto costs $130.
Canadian Wilderness Trips, which also has its base camp at the northwest boundary of Algonquin, has a new three-day weekend family canoe trip. This guided introduction to the wilderness includes one night in a cabin, two night's camping, and transportation from Toronto, for $325, or $275 (ages 6-13).
PaddleFoot takes families for four to seven-day canoe trips in the eastern section of Algonquin Park. Learning canoeing and camping skills, participants paddle through the breathtaking 300-foot high Barron Canyon. Adults $115, Youth $95 pp, per day.
Madawaska Kanu Centre on the Madawaska River near Barry's Bay, southeast of Algonquin Park, is the place to go to learn whitewater canoe and kayaking skills. It offers special family weekend and week-long courses for all levels of ability. Base camp is a chalet-style activity center, just 100 feet from the rapids. Accommodation is choice of camping, dormitory lodging or private lodge rooms. Five-day courses cost from $510 to $825, plus taxes and equipment.
From May until October Algonquin Outfitters offers single-day canoe adventures on Oxtongue Lake (Algonquin Park's largest lake). The $49.98 per person (plus tax) fee covers equipment and lunch. Children's rates are available.
On long weekends, Grand Experiences in Paris, Ontario, one hour west of Toronto, offers guided family trips beginning on the upper Grand where the average dept of the water is about 1 metre. The tour finishes at the famous 17th century Iroquois village, Kanata. The tour fee of $325 pp, based on a family of four, includes one night bed and breakfast, one night camping.
Heading north, Naturally Superior Adventures offers an opportunity to explore the clear waters, sandy beaches and rocky headlands of Lake Superior, on a Family Camping and Sea Kayak Long Weekend Getaway, July 29 to August 1, $407 adults, $243 youth.
Missinaibi Headwaters Outfitters, which has its basecamp nine hours north of Toronto in Chapleau Preserve Game (the world's largest game preserve), will run its popular Family River Trip from August 14-20. Cost for adults is $1225, $850 (ages 6-12).
Canoe Frontier Expeditions, based in Pickle Lake (Ontario's most northerly road accessible community) will arrange a family canoe trip for beginners through experts, in Wabakimi Wilderness Park, which is known for its fantastic fishing, shy woodland caribou, and pictographs. The popular package includes equipment, trip planning notes and access by floatplane. The cost is $415 US pp, based on a party of four. Park permits are extra. Guided trips are also available.
